Overview
The Hepatopancreaticobiliary Tumor Board provides education on available treatment options and clinical trials to address individual patient cases. We discuss how to utilize available non-surgical interventions in preparation for surgery, such as preoperative embolization for tumors, and possible GI interventions to help with diagnosis and preoperative chemotherapy. We also address how to utilize available resources better, such as appropriate referrals and use of ancillary services for coordination of care.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Employ available treatment options and available clinical trials to address individual patient cases.
  2. Utilize available non-surgical interventions in preparation for surgery, such as preoperative embolization for tumors, and possible GI interventions to help with diagnosis and preoperative chemotherapy.
  3. Utilize neoadjuvant therapy when appropriate and describe its role in the management of borderline resectable pancreatic cancer.
  4. Identify pancreatic cystic lesions on cross-sectional imaging, and recognize the high-risk stigmata and worrisome features that suggest the presence of cancer in these cysts.
  5. Implement the various techniques (percutaneous, endoscopic, surgical) for managing acute peripancreatic fluid in necrotizing pancreatitis.
  6. Locate clinical trials to help with preoperative and postoperative care and provide the patient with a comprehensive approach.
  7. Utilize available resources better, such as appropriate referrals and use of ancillary services for coordination of care.
