Medical Spanish & Cultural Awareness Course 2025

This 4 day intensive Medical Spanish course teaches the participants basic medically oriented grammar structures. These structures allow the Health Care Professional to be able to interview patients in Spanish, take a simple medical history, conduct physical exams, give prescriptions and follow up instructions, as well as intervene with medical emergencies. The participant will be exposed to a Spanish vocabulary of 1,500 general and medical words. Cultural awareness and insights will be addressed as well. Intermediate/Advanced students will be able to do all of the above using more idioms, complex tenses and moods (conditional, present & past progressive, present & past perfect tenses +subjunctive mood & its tenses.)

1. Interview patients in Spanish in a culturally appropriate manner.
2. Take a simple medical history, conduct a physical exam, give prescriptions & follow up instructions, and intervene with medical emergencies in the Spanish language.
3. Demonstrate a high degree of cultural sensitivity and competency in order to identify and address “culture-bound symptoms,” leading to a stronger physician/patient bond, improved communication, and a higher level of healthcare compliance.
