Medical Spanish Self Study Program 2024-2027

This Self-study Medical Spanish course teaches the participants basic medically-oriented vocabulary and grammar structures. These structures allow the Health Care Professional to be able to interview patients in Spanish, take a simple medical history, conduct various exams, give prescriptions and follow up instructions, as well as intervene with medical emergencies. The participant will be exposed to a Spanish vocabulary of 3,000 general and medical words. Cultural awareness and insights will be addressed as well. A section on various questionnaires, dialogues, and exercises are included for practice. The program also includes an entire Intermediate and Advanced level section where participants will be able to do all of the above using more idioms, complex tenses and moods (conditional, present & past progressive, present & past perfect tenses +subjunctive mood & its tenses).

1. Interview patients in Spanish in a culturally appropriate manner.
2. Take a simple medical history, conduct a physical exam, give prescriptions & follow up instructions, and intervene with medical emergencies in the Spanish language.
3. Demonstrate a high degree of cultural sensitivity and competency in order to identify and address “culture-bound symptoms,” leading to a stronger physician/patient bond, improved communication, and a higher level of healthcare compliance.
