Overview

Training Transformative Mental Healthcare Teams is a FREE online conference co-produced by the University of Arizona College of Nursing and the College of Medicine - Tucson Department of Psychiatry—specifically designed for behavioral healthcare preceptors in Arizona. This free online conference will equip preceptors with effective strategies to strengthen the clinical competence and engagement of experiential learners in the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program. Join us to help prepare the next generation of providers to deliver high-quality behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and adults in underserved Arizona communities. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) provided financial support for this conference. The award provided $10,000 for this conference. The contents are those of the authors. They may not reflect the policies of HRSA, HHS, or the U.S. Government.

Free to attend.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply evidence-based supervisory models and adult learning principles to design mentorship approaches that promote new clinician retention in underserved Arizona communities.
  2. Evaluate perinatal mental health presentations for anxiety, red flags, severity, safety, and functional impact, and formulate evidence-based management and referral plans appropriate to rural practice contexts, including practical telehealth and Arizona Psychiatry Access Line options.
  3. Construct individualized safety plans for adolescents at elevated suicide risk, integrating standardized risk assessment findings and lethal means counseling within rural resource constraints.
  4. Integrate culturally responsive and trauma-informed frameworks into care for Native American patients, demonstrating respect for Tribal sovereignty and the role of historical trauma in behavioral health outcomes.
  5. Differentiate among common anxiety disorder presentations in children and adolescents and explain the evidence base for psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments for complex presentations within rural and underserved care systems in Arizona.
