Overview
The Arizona Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Annual Meeting is a two-day live educational activity designed for practicing surgeons, surgical trainees, and healthcare professionals. The program features expert presentations on technology and AI in surgical practice, GI, hernia, and bariatric care, and advocacy, business, and wellbeing topics relevant to general surgeons, along with resident abstract presentations and a live debate on the role of robotics in surgery. Attendees will hear a keynote address on advocacy for surgeons from a trauma surgeon and former Arizona State Representative, and participate in discussions that promote excellence in surgical practice and education.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Select appropriate use cases for AI-assisted tools, 3D surgical modeling, and non-dominant robotic platforms in surgical practice.
  2. Evaluate current evidence comparing robotic-assisted, laparoscopic, and open approaches for common general surgery procedures.
  3. Manage bariatric emergencies using updated, evidence-based strategies.
  4. Apply evidence-based pathways for diverticular disease management, including indications for reanastomosis versus antibiotics versus emergency colon surgery.
  5. Differentiate inguinal, sports, and atypical groin hernias to guide diagnosis and treatment planning.
  6. Apply high-tension closure and damage-control techniques in complex or recurrent abdominal wall hernia repairs.
  7. Counsel surgical patients on nutrition and prehabilitation strategies to improve perioperative outcomes.
  8. Apply current oncologic principles and treatment updates relevant to general surgery practice.
  9. Apply updated coding and reimbursement knowledge relevant to wound care and reconstructive overlap in general surgery.
  10. Engage in advocacy efforts that directly affect surgical practice and reimbursement in Arizona.
