1) The Physicians and members of the healthcare team will appreciate new strategies in the management of critical illness 2) This will provide a comprehensive review of the clinical management, decision making, program and organizational processes related to the use of ECLS 3) This will ultimately aid in the identification and correction of knowledge, performance and organizational deficits. 4) The desired goal is improved patient outcomes, enriched knowledge/skill and enhanced team performance.

1. Incorporate into practice knowledge of the indications for venovenous (VV) and venoarterial (VA) and venovenoarterial ECMO
2. Select appropriate cannula size and cannulation configuration for both VV and VA ECMO
3. Manage common circuit emergencies and anticipate complications
4. Determine the adequacy of support and make appropriate circuit adjustments
5. Manage anticoagulation strategies for VV and VA ECMO
6. Direct a weaning trial and removal of support, understanding the candidacy, and timing for transition to a durable cardiac or respiratory replacement
