Overview
The 1st Annual Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) CME Conference will take place on September 7, 2024 at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson Social Hall (Rm 2500 - the old hospital cafeteria space), located at the University of Arizona, 1501 N Campbell Ave, Tucson, AZ 85724. The conference will provide education on the care of complex pancreas, liver, and bile duct issues. Leading experts in the fields of HPB surgery, medical oncology, surgical oncology, interventional gastroenterology, and interventional radiology will discuss the multidisciplinary management of the difficult gallbladder, bile duct injuries, pancreatic cancer, acute and chronic pancreatitis, benign and malignant liver mases, and gastroesophageal cancers, with multidisciplinary case discussions included. This conference is a great learning opportunity for general surgeons, oncologists, gastroenterologists, primary care physicians, and HPB specialists who care for these patients.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Implement the various techniques for managing the difficult gallbladder and preventing bile duct injuries, including the critical view of safety, intraoperative cholangiography, and subtotal cholecystectomy.
  2. Utilize neoadjuvant therapy when appropriate and describe its role in the management of borderline resectable pancreatic cancer.
  3. Identify pancreatic cystic lesions on cross-sectional imaging, and recognize the high-risk stigmata and worrisome features that suggest the presence of cancer in these cysts.
  4. Implement the various techniques (percutaneous, endoscopic, surgical) for managing acute peripancreatic fluid in necrotizing pancreatitis.
  5. Describe indications for evolving techniques in the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer.
