This enduring material is a recording of the January 10, 2023 Academy CME event on Safe Opioid Prescribing and Innovations in Pain Management held at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Utilize 2018 Arizona Prescribing Guidelines in the clinical practice, including safe opioid prescribing and non-opioid alternative therapies.
  2. Describe the pathophysiology underlying chronic pain.
  3. Describe the mechanism of action for hypnosis, guided imagery, mindfulness and CBT for reversing central sensitization.
  4. Utilize as appropriate non-opioid modalities to treat chronic pain.
  5. Identify appropriate patients for non-opioid and interventional therapies for chronic pain.
